I have too many favourites, but let's narrow it down. Let's say I am to choose my favourite classical piece of music and historic piece of visual art. Even this is proving difficult. I'll choose one of my favourites, haha.
One of my favourite classical composers is Chopin. He just manages to express romance and life itself so beautifully in solo piano. When I hear or play it I am overwhelmed... it just sounds incredible. Anyway, I'm going to choose Chopin's Polonaise in A minor as my favourite musical piece (I think it is the A-minor polonaise! I have too many on my computer to be 100% sure).
And my favourite piece of art... well one of my favourite artists is Rene Magritte. He's just so damn sarcastic, I love it. There's always some juxtaposition that blows my mind, and I love how I can look at his art and it either makes me laugh or makes me really think.

Two fantastic books... The Geographer's Library was given to me by the German... I'm in the middle of it right now. It's kind of crazy and I still don't know what's going to happen. Hm.
The Memory Keeper's Daughter is something I've heard so much about... and I picked it up at this used book store while we were downtown the other day. I love used book stores... so full of quirkiness.
Yesterday I spent totally bumming around with the Boy. We got high and watched A Scanner Darkly. Totally a fucked up movie, but definitely recommended. Going in I had no idea what the plotline was about but I heard a lot of fuss being made over the way the movie was filmed (in real time, then it was vectored). I gotta say that the vectors definitely throw you for a loop and I was tripping out on some scenes... I kept thinking it was real and then the characters would come in, completely vectored and I would be thrown again.
Last night after dinner with his parents we watched the Departed. I have to say that it was definitely the lesser of the two films we watched yesterday. I was pretty disappointed. I'm like that with a lot of Scorsese's movies; I'm always left wanting more from him. I'm never quite satisfied with the endings. I was like that with the Aviator and with Gangs of New York, and somewhat with Goodfellas, although I must say I really enjoyed Goodfellas. He's good at cinematography but even that strength wasn't really highlighted in this film. It got, well, boring... near the end. Which is not to say that I didn't love Leonardo diCaprio in this one. I think he's really starting to make something of himself... impressive. All the actors did a fantastic job; I just expected something more from the movie. Oh well. Anyway, today I'm supposed to try and get some of these assignments done in preparation for my two weeks of hell when I return to school. Damn reading week... it always makes me crave summer in the worst possible way.
